SIP Verification
Testing FAQ

What does SIP Verified mean when an endpoint is verified to Cisco Unified Communications (CCM,CCME,SRST)?
For a product to be SIP Verified, the following must occur:
- A product must pass all the tests related to the specified
list of features which are based on RFC standards 3261 and related
RFCs for trunk and line-side SIP interfaces. To pass means
the product must achieve 100% pass rate with expected results
on all selected features and for all tests within that feature
category. Prior to testing, the vendor will select
which features it wishes to verify on that particular product
being tested.
- The product cannot have any visible features on their end point
that do not work and/or are not verified.
- The product must also pass all the other test cases in the
test plan that relate to usability, reliability, and negative
testing. tekVizion will provide a copy of the test strategy outlining
all test cases upon request so that the vendor understands what
is being tested prior to signing a service contract
with tekVizion.

How does Cisco recognize/support the
tekVizion SIP Verification Brand?
Cisco recognizes the SIP Verified logo. tekVizion will post the
successful results on the tekVizion web sites indicating the following:
- Vendor’s company name
- Vendor’s product name
- Vendor’s product version that was tested
- Cisco Unified Communications (CCM,CCME,SRST)
- List of features that were tested and passed
Cisco will provide a link to the tekVizion site from the Cisco
web site.
Third Party Vendor Support
Vendor’s whose products are SIP Verified will be able to
purchase support services through tekVizion. tekVizion will
work through Cisco to resolve the issue on behalf of the vendor.
Cisco will work with tekVizion on a best effort basis to resolve
issues of interoperability.
Why would a company participate in this testing?
Vendors interested in proving interoperability with Cisco
Unified CallManager product would participate in this testing. This
Verification testing will allow a vendor to be recognized, within
the industry and to potential customers of their product, as being
interoperable to one of the leading IP Communications Platforms.
What is the testing process?
See details in the SIP Verification
Testing Process Section of
this web site
How does a vendor register for a test?
Fill out a Test Request Form to register for SIP Verification Testing
Services with tekVizion.
If I pass SIP Verification testing,
do I get to use the SIP Verification logo?
Yes, when a product successfully passes SIP Verification testing;
they will receive a statement of verification from tekVizion and
will be allowed to use the SIP Verification logo per the logo use
guidelines.
Can I perform remote testing to the Cisco Unified CallManager
before I come in for formal SIP Verification Testing?
Yes, a vendor can purchase remote testing time to perform some
pre-verification self testing prior to scheduling formal SIP Verification
testing. See remote testing fees below.
Can I get a copy of the SIP Verification test plan prior to testing?
You can get a copy of the test strategy prior to testing. Please
send a request to our program
director. Your company will be required
to sign an NDA with tekVizion.
Can I test features other than the ones listed in the feature
list?
No, the only features available to test on Cisco Unified CallManager
are the ones listed in the Feature List
Will Cisco see my test results?
Cisco will only know if you pass the test for the features you
requested to test against Cisco Unified CallManager. They
will not see any information on your failures.
What if I don’t pass with
the expected results but the feature still works?
At that time you are welcome to sign a 3-way NDA between Cisco,
tekVizion, and your company so that tekVizion can share just those
unexpected results to Cisco to see if they will allow the feature
to pass with those unexpected results.
What if I don’t agree with
the results?
Per the testing services contract, you will still be obligated
to pay for the testing. You are welcome to sign a 3-way
NDA between Cisco, tekVizion and your company so that tekVizion
can share just the results with Cisco. You can purchase
support from tekVizion to assist you in solving any failures
that you have.
Can I fail the test even if I pass all the features which I select
to be verified?
Yes, if tekVizion receives your end point, and it clearly shows
an unsupported feature that an end-user would expect to work; then
the end-point will not pass the Verification Testing. In
addition, you must pass all other test cases including reliability,
usability and negative testing included in the test plan. Request
a test strategy from the program director to see the details of
what will be tested.
What if I choose to test 12 of
the 16 features and 11 pass? Do
I get a checkmark for the passing 11, and would your web site reference
the failure for the 12th feature.
You must pass all features that you select to be tested in order
to be considered SIP Verified and in order for tekVizion to list
you on the tekVizion web site.
If I test for 8 of the 16 features, initially, and pass; can I
come back for an additional round of testing to test the rest of
the features and skip the first 8 that I already tested?
No, any retests of any kind require a full regression test.
How can I get more information about how the features are implemented
and how they will be tested?
The features are implemented per the RFC related to that feature
listed below. A test strategy can be provided ahead of time
prior to testing, after an NDA is in place. Specific answers
related to the test strategy and test method can be provided after
you review the strategy.
What exactly does tekVizion provide in regards to Support Services?
Vendor can contract tekVizion on an hourly, monthly or yearly basis
for support to assist them with issues such as basic configuration
questions/issue, troubleshooting/debugging failures, etc. In
addition, tekVizion will provide the interface to Cisco to report
and track the issue on the vendor’s behalf. The vendor
gains the benefit of indirect representation from Cisco versus
being required to purchase Cisco’s Developer Support contract.
Will
third-party Vendor SIP end points be supported by Cisco’s
Technical Assistance Center (TAC)?
In order to access Cisco TAC,
customers that have installed SIP Verified end points should have
a minimum of Cisco Unified Communications Essential Operate Services
on their Cisco Unified CallManager system. Cisco TAC will provide
support for Cisco products up to the point of the interface. Cisco
TAC will not provide support for third party IP phones. The responsibility
for support of the third-party IP phones will rest with
the vendors themselves.
In instances where the customer calls Cisco TAC and is
using a third-party IP phone, Cisco TAC will isolate the problem
to either a Cisco product or the third-party phone. If the problem
would not occur using a Cisco phone or is caused by the third-party
product, the customer will be referred to the third party IP
phone vendor.
In the case of phones that are SIP Verified, Cisco TAC
will be able to inform the customer of the interoperability
status of the third party phone. This status will include specifically
which features that have been verified as interoperable by the
test facility. In addition, Cisco TAC will be able to advise
the customer of how to contact the third party IP Phone
Vendor's support organization. |
